I came from the East Coast to the West with not much preparation or any idea of what I'm doing. Dragonfly was all I had, the idea of it and the hope of maybe getting along with life. After nearly a year in Oregon, after a year of thinking I would never leave my home, never do anything with my life, I now have a pretty great life. I started with the internship that Dragonfly offers at their local coffee shop and am now an employee. I've made great friends, met amazing staff who are fun, nice, and genuinely wonderful people. My staff mentor and others helped me out through some difficult times and through sheer stubbornness. Honestly, I never would be what and who I am now without Dragonfly. A young woman, happily in a healthy relationship, in an apartment of my own--paying bills and working hard at a job I love with some amazing coworkers/friends.
I benefited greatly from this program. Since deciding to go and reaching completion two years ago, I'm back in school, have held a steady job, and have never had better relationships with my family and myself. I'd recommend Dragonfly for anyone who is willing to do the work, even though it's difficult, and who sees the program as an investment in themselves.
I graduated from Dragonfly a couple years ago and have now been interning at the Ashland campus for the past 6 months. I feel Dragonfly is an amazing program that has changed the lives of many young adults and their families. When I first got to Dragonfly, I had little direction and had just spent the last year in bed with crippling depression and anxiety. Dragonfly helped me to find my voice and to understand myself. The amazing staff team helped me to gain the skills I needed to reach my full potential. A couple years out of the program and I am now about to graduate from a 4 year university, making strides in my therapeutic work, and am looking at various ways to give back to communities that have helped me so much on my journey. I am forever grateful for the experience I had at Dragonfly. I can honestly say, I would not be the person I am today without that experience.
I am a past Dragonfly student. I had a great experience here. I went after wilderness and genuinely feel it was necessary in order to secure the skills I was practicing, and learn how to live healthy and holistic in the real world. The mentors are real people with big hearts. I met some great people at the Klamath Falls campus including my best friend to this day. It is years later, and I still keep in touch with a lot of the people I met. I worked on myself at Dragonfly on a daily basis with the help of the people around me. It was almost never easy, but everyone challenged me to become the best version of myself and ultimately I succeeded. I believe everyone wanted the best for everyone else. I discovered some of my passions as well. Some of my happiest memories happened when I was at D-fly. The coolest memory I have is when I went to Zion National Park for a week with some other students and mentors. We went mountain biking, hiking and exploring, while camping beside a river. It was a blast.
I know if you are looking at a place like Dragonfly you have already been down a long road filled with frustration. There is no guarantee this will end that journey for you but our experience with Dragonfly is that they are well worth checking out. Features that helped us were the entry options, the family counselor and workshop, the variety of peer meetings and the quality of the staff professionals. We had some moments of concern and they were dealt with immediately and constructively which relieved us greatly. Our daughter has graduated form Dragonfly but has stayed in the area. She still drops in at the house on occasion and has formed a nice social group that includes many of her Dragonfly peers.
The entire team of staff are some of the most caring and wonderful people I've ever had the chance to work with. They not only support the residents and everyone involved, but the entire community as a whole. I would in no way be the responsible adult I am today with everything they did for me
Dragonfly Transitions was a game-changer in our family’s journey toward healing and growth. Our son had struggled through his teen years with anxiety, depression, self-harm and suicidality. A wide variety of treatment programs had yielded varying degrees of progress. Dragonfly Transitions was the first one that our son fully embraced, and his ownership of the program was a major factor in his success. We saw major shifts as he grew to be a thoughtful, responsible, self-reliant young man. The hallmarks of the Dragonfly program are both its structure and its adaptability. The transitional structure of the program gently guided our young adult son through progressive levels of independence, as it helped us parents in letting go. Parent involvement and reassurance throughout the program was balanced with student autonomy. The excellent staff were attuned to our son’s needs and were flexible and creative in finding ways to support him through both slips backward and leaps forward. School and work are integral to the Dragonfly program and were a key part of our son’s progress. Dragonfly Transitions is respected and connected in the community, providing many opportunities. The Dragonfly team advocated for our son without rescuing him from natural consequences as he navigated work and school. He also learned about resources in the community and became skilled at advocating for himself. The Klamath Falls community is an excellent match for our son, and he has chosen to continue living there as a young adult after completing the Dragonfly program. The low-key relaxed atmosphere helps him keep a lid on anxiety. Several Dragonfly grads continue to live, work, and study in the area, providing an empathetic support network. In addition to the two local college campuses, there’s also a wider young adult community through gaming, rock-climbing, snowboarding, a community band, and other healthy recreational activities. A wide variety of beautiful natural settings are in driving distance, and Dragonfly’s frequent outings are a big part of the program; it’s also a nice place to visit and spend time as a family. Upon graduating from Dragonfly in 2017, our son had been mental-health-crisis-free for a full year. He was living independently in a shared apartment that he could fund on his wages. He had maintained a job for six months, leaving in good standing to attend college full time. He was attending his classes and earning good grades. Moreover, he was communicating respectfully and lovingly with us parents and seeking our input and blessing in his decision-making. Since then, he has not only maintained that progress but also continues to grow in these areas. The Dragonfly team was there for us from beginning to end. On officially completing the program, we were reassured that we were always welcome to visit, that there were ways for alumni to participate and stay connected if they wished, and that staff would still be available if either we or our son ever needed them. As parents, we have always been reassured that our son has a caring, supportive home in Dragonfly. -- Grateful Dragonfly Graduate Parents
I always felt heard and respected at dragonfly I had a lot to work on and felt helped and guided from the first moment I arrived off the plane in Medford Oregon to the last moment I got on the plane back to Boston (Massachusetts) One big thing Dragonfly taught me to have both integrity and to constantly be assertive with people. the staff would always respond respectfully, assertively, and always had integrity no matter how I was was with them. No real journey is complete without bumps and rocks, but despite the various challenges over my stay at dragonfly I faced, dragonfly both the program and their staff (all of whom were excellent) were always with me every step of the way Note that This is from my opinion alone and doesn't reflect my parents opinion directly but They agree on everything I am saying.
Without a doubt, the best program I've ever worked for. Dragonfly has stayed true to their core values and is a wonderful place to learn and grow for both staff and students.
Very positive experience overall where I learned life skills and healthy coping mechanisms. Times were occasionally tough but fair looking back and I would certainly recommend this place. Glenn and Mona did a wonderful job running things
I'm a current student who is NOT PAID OR OTHERWISE GIVEN INCENTIVE TO SAY THIS: the program is not perfect by far; however, I have been in residential treatment for multiple diagnoses since I graduated high school over 4 years ago-let me tell you, this program is the best (for me, anyway). I've been bounced from other places because they either didn't care at all or couldn't help me past a certain growth level. It's hard to get used to this structured lifestyle at first, but if you're looking for a place that accepts diversity both with sexuality and gender identity, this is better than any I've been to that supposedly promised to accept me as a person (and I am different from the "typical" in that regard). Also, with pyschological issues, Dragonfly can handle multiple and various types with compassion-and the staff don't baby you in the process. I don't know much about addictions, but I haven't heard too much complaining about how they deal with drug/alcohol recovery. I would complain that there is a flaw in that there is hardly enough staff to go around at times, and there can be a lack of communication between key staff members regarding what decisions were made, etc. in a student's treatment. If you like dogs, you will be pleasantly surprised. Cats are basically banned indoors, though-one of a few things that make no sense. I am a current student...and I do hope to exit this program as a typical, functioning adult. I believe I can do this with Dragonfly's help. I've already made a lot of progress, but you have to put in the effort for it to work. Bottom line: recommended, but not going to praise it like it's perfect or something.
The Dragonfly program and staff create a supportive and therapeutic environment that fosters personal growth and healing. The Dragonfly program is ideal for young people who experience emotional challenges blocking them from embracing adulthood. As a former student, I highly recommend Dragonfly for young adults needing encouragement from professionals and peers as they make their transition into adulthood. You'll graduate with lifelong friends, everlasting memories, and the behavioral tools you'll need to lead a healthy life.
We had a very positive experience with Dragonfly. Mona and Glen are very dedicated and gifted in dealing with some challenging young adults and their situations. The road to recovery is windy but the staff at DF was there to support my son through it. He is now thriving as an Engineering student in college.
I am a graduate of Dragonfly Transitions. The program is tough for many people, but only because it challenges students to grow. Being at Dragonfly, for me, was a constant learning experience. I am so, so thankful to have had the privilege to attend this program. Before Dragonfly, it was extremely difficult to properly take care of myself. By the end of my time in the program, I was living on my own, holding multiple paying jobs, and going to school. I am so proud of myself and of all the people who helped me learn so much, and I can thank Dragonfly for the rest of my life for all the invaluable life skills I developed there. While at Dragonfly, I also held a leadership role in our Student Council, and that was such a great experience. The students really do have a voice at Dragonfly, and with mature, patient advocacy, important changes can be made. For example, when I entered Dragonfly there was little leeway for men and women to socialize together alone, and the transgender students were often in complex and difficult circumstances. By the time I left, there was gender-integrated housing for the senior students, and a regular group for transgender students in addition to the traditional men's and women's weekly groups. Dragonfly is a truly special place, and it is such a profound privilege to have been able to do this program.
My son was a student at Dragonfly Transitions a few years ago, and it was one of the best experiences we have had as a family. He grew into a self-aware, independent adult with the guidance of Mona, Glenn and their staff. We are still in contact with them, and I consider them part of our family. I highly recommend Dragonfly to any young adult who is struggling with becoming the best adult they can be.
Dragonfly Transitions is a truly special program with caring, gifted staff- we were lucky to find them! D'Fly helped our family work our way through some difficult issues and essentially brought us closer together, allowing us to move forward in positive directions. Kudos to Mona, Glenn and the entire Dragonfly Team... you are amazing . We will be forever grateful for the guidance and renewed hope you gave to our daughter during a difficult period of her life.
My Son and I give thanks to Dragonfly everyday! He is a success story like so many other graduated students at Dragonfly because of Mona and Glenn and their incredible team!! The journey was not an easy one for us, but it was one with a happy ending. Outcomes such as ours happen because of Dragonfly's unwavering support, knowledge and dedication to each and every student and their families.
Our family was forever changed by the Dragonfly team. Mona and Glenn are dedicated mental health professionals who have devoted themselves to helping young adults recognize the unique talents that they possess and help them address the obstacles that are getting in their way. The therapists are all professional and caring and, most importantly, they are consistent with their message. The Dragonfly team helped our family to recognize each of our contributions to the things that created problems and helped us individually discover pathways to better communication. Even after graduating from the Dragonfly program, Mona and Glenn have been powerful advocates and friends to our family, even showing up on the doorstep of our son, across the country, when there was a hiccup. Since leaving Dragonfly, we have had so many reasons to celebrate and every time we gather to recognize our good fortune, we always acknowledge Mona, Glenn and Dfly!
Incredible adventures and memories. If you work the program you'll get the change you've always wanted. Go to Cambodia if offered. I keep my dfly friends close to my heart and hope to always keep it that way Glenn and Mona are angels and deserve forever praise.
